Got the 66 finally to my house Friday. I'm planning on painting it a teal color and white. Started some sanding and found some bad bond work so I'm re doing it. Mostly on the roof by the back window and on the rear apron.
Looking for a carb for someone and hate to spend 200 on a new one. If ya got one let me know and we can work something out
So i have finally begun the tear down of the chop top. Today i pulled the motor so i can put it in the 66 i just bought. Had the motor pulled in 30 mins but i know i can do it faster. Im starting to get real good at pulling and installing motors. The next step is to get the body of the pan so i can begin working on reinforcing the body and pan for the 2232 i plan on putting in it. I also need to remove the tranny next so i can put it in the black bug and have reverse I plan on spending the next couple years working on this making it perfect. So this is just the beginning of a very very long journey!
So this saturday there is a big car show out in downtown gresham. Its gonna be a really good time 300+ cars and yes there is a volkswagen class! Show starts at 7 till about 3 or 4 and then there is a cruise around downtown. My chop top will be there and i will be volunteering there also since all the proceeds go to my schools automotive program and scholarships for the students in my program (Mt hood Community College) So come check it out i would love to see some volksters roll through plus its gonna be a great time. its 20 dollars to show your car and there are tons of classes for all kinds of cars. There will be plenty of old hot rods! It would make my day to see all the volksters possible roll up in a line of 20 or so vdubs!!
So i am doing some work on this guys 73 super and the next thing needed to be done is fixing the breaks. He has put all new breaks drums and master cylinder on the car but when i hit the breaks it pulls hard to the right and after about 150 miles the front breaks lock up. What do you think could be causing this? Re bleed the breaks or adjust them? Those are my only two guesses anything else that could cause that?
Today i finally made the back bumper for it i stained wood the same color of the rack. After that i decided to black out all my lights which looks really good, and then after testing it on a extra head light i decided to black out those too. I will have pictures of the headlights soon as they are still drying
Will be getting this on sunday. Has been completely gone through and re done and is in great condition, i can't wait! Gonna be a lot of fun this summer!
Will have more pictures after i buy it sunday!
Just to let some people know there is a cruise to seaside on the 23rd of april it is called the crosshaul cruise and is for all european made cars. I plan on going here is a link to the website http://www.crosshaulcruise.com/
I just got the infamous super beetle "shimmy" at 40 mph and then when i speed up to 45 it goes away. i know all my tie rod ends are shot and i was wondering how big of a task it is to replace them and how much should i expect to spend on parts.
So after putting in a new motor into my super beetle my gen light was staying on after the car was running so i got to looking at the wiring to the light and the wire to the ignition was not plugged in so i plugged it in but now the light is off when the car is running but is stuck on when i turn the car off. The wiring in this car is a mess and i am running out of ideas to fix it so if you have any suggestions please let me know
My name is trevor price and i am 18 years old.
i got my first 74 super beetle at 16 and fell in love,
spent two years working on it and loved that car.
i eventually traded it for a 72 Karmann ghia but got in a accident a few months later
I currently have the ghia and a 73 super beetle.
The beetle is my newest project and i am planing on taking the ghia motor and
putting it into the bug.
I have taught my self as i go and just learn from every problem i run into
I love to get suggestions, new ideas and enjoying learning new things
Classic VW's are my life and i plan on pursuing a career in the automotive industry
the picture is of my old 74 i bougt it for 750 and it was green and after two years of work this was the final product
